Can you insure a property used as both a home and a business?
It depends on how the property is used and the cover you need. Running a business from your home can have different insurance requirements from owning a mixed-use building with separate residential and commercial premises.
Running a business from home
We may be able to arrange home insurance that allows your business use, subject to the insurer’s acceptance. We’ll ask what work you do, which parts of the property you use, whether customers or employees visit, and what equipment or stock you keep there.

Separate residential and commercial premises
If you mean a building containing a shop, office or other commercial unit alongside living accommodation, please contact our team before requesting a quote. Explain whether you need insurance for the whole building or just the residential part, so we can check whether we can help.
Home insurance that accepts business use does not automatically cover your business activities, liabilities, equipment or stock. Separate business insurance may be needed.
