Are drones covered by home insurance?

Drones and drone accessories may be covered under general contents insurance while they are kept in the home, subject to the policy terms, limits and exclusions.

At present, drones are not covered under personal possessions cover, which means they are not covered when taken away from the home.

If you use a drone outside the home, especially for commercial purposes, you may need specialist drone insurance. Commercial drone users are required to have third-party insurance as a minimum, and recreational users may still be responsible for injury or damage they cause while flying.

If your drone is high value, used professionally, or regularly taken away from home, it is worth checking your policy wording or speaking to us before assuming it is covered.
