Can I get insurance for a self-build house?
You may be able to get home insurance for a completed self-build house. The insurer will consider its construction, how it is used and its rebuild cost. We may also ask for details such as the materials used, completion date and any structural warranty.
If the house is still under construction, it may need specialist self-build insurance. Standard home insurance may not cover the building work, so tell us what stage the project has reached before arranging cover.
For completed homes, you can read more about prefabricated home insurance and SIPs home insurance. Which page is relevant depends on how your house was built.
