How do I report a home emergency?
If you experience a potential home emergency, contact the 24-hour claims helpline shown in your policy schedule, policy documents or MyAccount. Call before arranging any work Contact the claims helpline before appointing a contractor or arranging repairs yourself. Work you arrange without prior approval will not be covered. Explain what has happened Provide details of the emergency, when it began and any immediate damage or safety concerns. The claims team will assess the circumstances against the cover shown in your schedule and the applicable policy terms. Reporting an emergency does not guarantee that the claim will be accepted. What happens if the claim is accepted? If an emergency repair is covered, the claims service may appoint an authorised contractor. Attendance and completion will be subject to factors including safe access, weather conditions, parts and contractor availability. Emergency repairs are normally temporary. You may remain responsible for arranging and paying for any permanent work required afterwards. What should I do if there is an immediate danger? For a gas leak, contact the National Gas Emergency Service first. If anyone is in immediate danger or serious property damage is likely, contact the appropriate emergency service or utility supplier before calling the Home Emergency claims helpline.
How much does Home Emergency Plus cost and how can I add it?
For a full policy year, Home Emergency Plus currently costs £57.12 when paid annually. If you choose to pay monthly, payments are approximately £5.40 a month. The total amount payable over 12 months is £64.83, including £7.71 in interest. Interest is charged at 13.5% (26.9% representative APR). The price and payment terms will be confirmed before you add the cover. What does Home Emergency Plus add? Home Emergency Plus provides higher claim limits and adds cover for specified primary heating-system, security and access emergencies, subject to the policy terms, conditions and exclusions. See our Home Emergency Cover comparison for the current benefits and limits. Can I add Home Emergency Plus during my policy? You can request to add Home Emergency Plus to an eligible policy through MyAccount or by contacting our team. If you add the cover part way through your policy term, the price for the remaining period will be calculated and confirmed before you proceed. Your confirmation will state when the additional cover begins. Waiting periods, eligibility requirements and exclusions may apply. Read when Home Emergency Cover starts and check your policy documents before adding the cover.
Am I covered for home emergencies straight away?
Claims arising within the first 48 hours after your Home Emergency Cover starts are not covered. This restriction does not apply if you held equivalent insurance immediately beforehand. Boiler replacement contribution A separate 30-day waiting period applies to the boiler replacement contribution available with Home Emergency Plus. This restriction does not apply if you held equivalent insurance immediately beforehand. First occupation and reoccupation Claims arising during the seven days immediately after you first occupy the home are not covered. The same seven-day restriction applies after you reoccupy a home that has been unoccupied for 30 consecutive days or more. Your policy schedule confirms which cover applies to you. Read your schedule and the relevant documents on our Policy Documents page for the complete terms, waiting periods and exclusions.
Can I add home emergency plus cover at any time?
Yes, you can add Home Emergency Plus cover at any point during your policy term. How it works We’ll pro-rate the premium so you only pay for the remaining months of your policy. Add it instantly via Manage My Policy or by contacting our team. Why add it? Home Emergency Plus gives extra protection for urgent issues such as boiler breakdowns, burst pipes, or electrical failures, helping you deal with unexpected problems quickly and efficiently. For full details, see our Home Emergency Plus cover page.
Is there an excess on Home Emergency Cover?
There is no excess to pay for an accepted claim under Intelligent Insurance Home Emergency Cover or Home Emergency Plus. However, having no excess does not mean every cost will be covered. Claims remain subject to the applicable claim limits, terms and exclusions. You may be responsible for: costs above the applicable claim limit permanent repairs required after a temporary emergency repair work or circumstances that are not covered by the policy work arranged without first contacting the claims helpline Some Home Emergency Plus benefits, including alternative heating and the boiler replacement contribution, may require you to pay the cost and provide an original receipt before receiving the applicable payment. If you make a separate buildings or contents insurance claim for damage resulting from the emergency, the excess applying to that policy may still be payable. Check your schedule and the relevant documents on our Policy Documents page for the limits and terms that apply to you.
What is classed as a home emergency?
Under Home Emergency Cover, an emergency is a sudden and unforeseen incident at your home that requires prompt action because it could: expose you or another person to a risk to their health create a risk of loss or damage to your home make your home uninhabitable Does every urgent problem qualify? No. Meeting the general description of an emergency does not automatically mean that a claim will be accepted. The incident must also fall within one of the emergency categories included in your cover and meet the applicable policy definitions, claim limits, conditions and exclusions. Depending on the cover shown in your schedule, these categories may include specified plumbing, drainage, electricity, gas, water-supply, pest, roofing, heating, security or access emergencies. Routine maintenance, general wear and tear and appliance breakdowns are not covered. How will my emergency be assessed? Contact the 24-hour claims helpline shown in your policy schedule, policy documents or MyAccount. The claims team will assess the circumstances against the cover shown in your schedule and the applicable policy terms. Contact the claims helpline before arranging a contractor yourself. Work arranged without prior approval will not be covered. If anyone is in immediate danger or serious property damage is likely, contact the appropriate emergency service or utility supplier first.
Will a Home Emergency claim affect my home insurance no-claims discount?
No. Making a claim under Home Emergency Cover does not affect your home insurance no-claims discount. What if the emergency causes other damage? Home Emergency Cover addresses the immediate cause of an eligible emergency. If the emergency also causes damage to your building or belongings, you may need to make a separate claim under your buildings or contents insurance. A separate buildings or contents claim may affect your home insurance no-claims discount and will be assessed under the terms, excess and limits of that policy. Check your policy schedule and policy documents for the cover that applies to you.
