How is home emergency cover different to home insurance?

Home insurance provides cover for the damage caused by particular incidents or events, and not the event itself.  For example, you could claim under your contents policy for water damage to a carpet following a burst pipe, but home insurance itself does not cover the cost of getting a plumber in to repair the damage to the pipe. Home Emergency cover would pay for the emergency situation to be resolved, i.e. in this case a contractor to come and repair the burst pipe, but not for the resulting water damage to the carpet.
